14TH JULY 2018 · #TRIPREPORT CABO· AFTERNOON PELAGIC SAFARI

Our afternoon today was only mobulas. Our guests were only motivated for our winged friends. Lately, Cabo has not had any shortage of these amazing rays. Of course we found many groups everywhere. The key was to find a group we could swim with and we did. We found a school of hundreds of mobulas.

They were swimming slowly and in a massive school. Our guests jumped in and it was a dark carpet of rays moving below us. We swam with them for more than hour straight. We could observe them very closely. Some of the details I was noticing was that it seemed within the school males and females took different places within the school. Also I noticed that the rays were behaving differently now than earlier in the season.

Sometimes the school was dropping down and some individuals were breaking away from the school and forming smaller mating groups near the surface. It was really interesting. We took a break to take a few pics from the surface and see what else we could find. We jumped with a few more groups but the most impressive thing we saw today was the last group as they were in blue, clear water and all moving in unison dropping and rising below us. It was really cool. We ended our trip with mobulas jumping like popcorn all through the bay. It was hard to drive away but we already stayed an extra thirty minutes. Wow! what a day 🙂
