Hello #PelagicHumans! It’s almost a cliché now to call the Sea of Cortez ‘an aquarium’, a quote from Jacques Cousteau back in his day, but we can understand the comparison from this beautiful experience… Yesterday were lucky to share the ocean with a big pod of dolphins, really friendly and sailed with us for a long time. They were adults and calfs, swimming peacefully together with us during our morning.
Later on we saw a juvenile smooth hammerhead swimming near the coast, but he was very shy and left us quickly. After that we wanted our guests to have some Mobula Action!
So we moved to another area to jump into the water with them, and although we did not have the perfect visibility, it was still incredible to share the ocean with this crazy pop corn Mobula party -they were there, just flying and doing acrobatic movements!!
We got to swim with them, feeling part of this amazing natural migration event. During our day, we also saw some olive ridley sea turtles at the surface resting! Something unexpected happened when we left the Mobula Spot too – we saw another smooth hammerhead (juvenile) near the surface swimming really close to our boat! We had an amazing day in the open ocean, and can’t wait for the next to come!
