We set out of the marina into the calm blue ocean with an open mind to see what surprises the ocean had for us today. As we came out of the bay and waved to the playful sea lions who were up early hunting the crystal clear water, we sped off in excitement. We spent the day in the Sea of Cortez in search of the magical Mobula Rays that visit us every summer. It is the end fo the season but they are still around. They make their presence known by the loud slap of their floppy bodies and they breach into the air.
Today we were Lucky we swam with 4 different groups of Mobulas. The groups ranged from about 200 to 800 mobulas. The water this time of year is a bit green, but still, the mobulas presence was definitely appreciated. The last group we jumped in with, the mobulas were in courting behavior, they stayed about 3 meters below the surface and swam around in circles, we did not even have to move, we floated on the surface making as little noise as possible and watched the show.
A beautiful day on Safari.
